Aakash Patel is running for the District 1 seat on the Hillsborough County Commission.

TAMPA – U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, a Republican who represents Florida’s 12th Congressional District, has endorsed Aakash Patel for Hillsborough County Commission, District 1.

“I am pleased to offer my support and endorsement of Aakash Patel as he seeks to become the next Hillsborough County Commissioner from District 1,” Bilirakis said. “Aakash has been very active working with me on multiple outreach initiatives and I am certain his enthusiasm for our community, his conservative principals and his business acumen will be put to great use for the good of the people.”

Patel worked closely with Bilirakis on various outreach initiatives while serving as vice president of the Indo-US Chamber of Commerce, which, he said, solidified a mutual friendship and respect.

Patel said he was honored to have the endorsement of “such a solid conservative public servant.”

“Congressman Bilirakis’ support means a great deal to me,” Patel said. “I am so very honored to have him endorse my campaign for Hillsborough County Commission. I work daily to bring more conservative involvement in our community and will continue to do so when elected to the County Commission from District 1. It has been my privilege to work with Congressman Bilirakis for the betterment of Hillsborough County and I look forward to continuing our efforts while serving in a greater capacity on the County Commission.”

Patel is the founder of Elevate, Inc. He said that, if elected, he looks forward to working on issues important to residents of Hillsborough County including healthcare, transportation, and public safety among many others.

Patel is one of two Republicans who have announced they are running for the District 1 seat. The other is C. Todd Marks. Democrat Janet Cruz is also in the race. The District 1 seat is currently held by Republican Sandra Murman who is running for the District 7 seat on the commission.
