U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist says questions about possible Russian manipulation of U.S. elections have “been laid to rest” but questions about possible obstruction of justice remain.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-St. Petersburg, issued this statement in the wake of Attorney General William Barr’s report on the contents of Special Counsel Robert Muller’s Report on the Investigation into Russian Interference in the 2016 Presidential Election.

“Thank you to Special Counsel Robert Mueller for his service to our country investigating Russia’s hacking of the 2016 election, and possible ties with the Trump campaign. Through his efforts, 25 Russian intelligence operatives and experts in social media manipulation were charged with interference, and six Trump aides were indicted or convicted for conspiracy or lying to investigators, including no less than the former head of the National Security Council Michael Flynn and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. Any question as to whether or not Russia tried to manipulate our elections has now been permanently laid to rest.

“On the question of obstruction of justice by President Trump and his advisors, Mueller ultimately deferred to the Attorney General, laying out both sides of the case in his report. Because Attorney General Barr is politically appointed, it is important that the full report and underlying materials be released. The American people deserve to know the facts of the case, especially given the magnitude of this investigation. As Floridians know, sunlight is the best disinfectant – full transparency is the only prudent, logical, and sensible path forward for the Attorney General, and our nation.”

Crist represents Florida’s 13th Congressional District, which includes south and mid-Pinellas County.
