If passed, the proposal would create a strategic partnership between the U.S. and Israel to combat drone attacks from Iran and other adversaries.

WASHINGTON, DC – The United States-Israel Joint Drone Detection Cooperation Act introduced by U.S. Reps. Charlie Crist, D-St. Petersburg, and Mike Johnson, R-LA, was included in the National Defense Authorization Act.

The NDAA, major legislation setting U.S. national security priorities, is expected to be considered by the U.S. House of Representatives next week. The Crist-Johnson proposal establishes a strategic partnership between the U.S. and Israel to combat drone attacks from Iran and other adversaries.

In addition to it being incorporated into the NDAA, the bipartisan proposal was also included in a larger U.S.-Israel security package passed last week by the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Its inclusion in these major legislative packages will solidify this strategic partnership in both U.S. national security and foreign policies.

“To see our bipartisan proposal continue to receive broad support and swiftly move through Congress speaks to the urgent need to address the growing threat of drone attacks to U.S. and Israeli security,” Crist said. “This new partnership will further our vital alliance on defense and foreign policy strategy, greatly benefiting both our countries and keeping our people safe.”

Johnson added, “At a time of heightened risk in the Middle East, it is as important as ever for the U.S. to reassert our support for Israel, our strongest ally in the region. Our drone detection legislation will help ensure Israel has the tools it needs to defend itself against evolving and increasingly catastrophic threats. I am pleased to have this bill included in the upcoming NDAA, and look forward to ushering it through the Congress and into law.”

Crist represents Florida’s 13th Congressional District, which includes south and mid-Pinellas County.
