The money will be used to renovate the Baldomero Lopez State Veterans’ Nursing Home in Land O’ Lakes.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Tarpon Springs, says his his advocacy on behalf of local veterans has resulted in an allocation of more than $2.7 million in federal funds for improvements at Baldomero Lopez State Veterans’ Nursing Home in Land O’ Lakes.

The funds will be used to renovate the facility’s dining room, dayrooms, nursing units and restrooms.

“I’ve visited this facility many times over the years, and have seen first-hand how desperately these upgrades are needed,” Bilirakis said. “Our veterans must be treated with dignity at all times.  They deserve the very best facilities in which to receive the highest possible care. I will continue to fight on behalf of all Veterans, as we work to honor the sacrifices and service they have given to our country.”

The money is part of $685 million in funding provided through the recent budget bill for the VA State Veterans Home Construction Grant Program. This substantial increase to the program, which has been operating for many years with a backlog of applications for construction projects, will undoubtedly benefit aging and disabled veterans throughout the country, Bilirakis said.

Bilirakis represents Florida’s 12th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. The district includes all of Pasco County and portions of Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.
