Bilirakis Reappointed to Energy, Veterans Committees
U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis was also named to serve on the Republican whip team.
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Tarpon Springs, was appointed Friday (Jan. 18) to serve on the Republican Whip team.
Bilirakis said this leadership position will enable him to have a voice in decisionmaking as he works to coordinate votes and a unified, conservative message of the Republican House Members.
This is Bilirakis’ second time on the whip team. He served on the Whip team from 2007 until 2014, when he was stripped of his position because of a vote he cast that, he said, would ensure his constituents could get flood insurance.
“The American people are counting on their leaders to work together and get things done for the good of our country. I look forward to serving in this leadership capacity once again, and working towards unifying my colleagues to pass meaningful legislation that keeps our country safe, strong, and prosperous,” Bilirakis said.
Bilirakis was reappointed to the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee and to the Veterans Affairs Committee. Bilirakis also was appointed to the House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology Subcommittee and the Health Subcommittee.
“These committee assignments will allow me to continue working on many pressing issues facing my constituents and community. I look forward to building upon the success I have already achieved in the fight to ensure Veterans receive the care and benefits they have earned, provide affordable access to quality health care, lower the price of prescription drugs, fight addiction, fix our broken mental health system, work to end human trafficking, address the growing problem of robocalls, provide the technology infrastructure needed to ensure the U.S. remains competitive on the global stage and much more,” Bilirakis said.
Bilirakis represents Florida’s 12th Congressional District, which includes all of Pasco and northern parts of Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.
