U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis praised a vote to make public the “FISA memo,” which is also known as the “Nunes memo.”

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Tarpon Springs, praised a vote by the House Intelligence Committee to release the FISA memo.

The FISA memo, also known as the Nunes memo after U.S. Rep. Devin Nunes, R-CA, who drafted it, reportedly alleges surveillance abuses at the U.S. Department of Justice. For information on the vote to release the memo, click here.

Bilirakis said, “I am supportive of yesterday’s [Jan. 29] decision by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI)  to release the FISA memo publicly. The president now has five days to review the memo and if he agrees with the committee that its release will not jeopardize national security, the committee will make the memo public.

“As I have previously shared, I found the contents of the memo about FISA abuses within the Department of Justice and FBI to be highly disturbing and believe the American people deserve to know the truth about what unelected and unaccountable  government officials have been accused of doing. I want to see systemic reform so the American public can have confidence that political affiliation will not impact our justice system.”

Bilirakis represents Florida’s 12th Congressional District, which includes all of Pasco and the northern parts of Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.
