Vultures Find Home in Largo’s McGough Park

Ember the Turkey Vulture

Ember and Vlad can no longer live in the wild because of injuries.

LARGO – Two injured vultures have joined the turtles, raptors and other wildlife at McGough Nature Park, according to the Friends of Largo Nature Parks.

Vlad, a male black vulture, suffered a shotgun injury that broke his wing and didn’t heal to the point where he could be returned to the wild. Ember, a young female turkey vulture was found in Michigan with a broken wing and then was moved to Oklahoma.

Because of the injuries, the vultures are no longer suited to live in the wild and have found a permanent residence at the Narrows. The Friends of Largo Nature Parks is accepting donations to help build additional enclosures for Vlad and Ember. With their sudden arrival, they are in need of a structure to call home.

Contribute to the support of the vultures by becoming a member of, volunteering with, or making a donation to the Friends of the Largo Nature Parks. For information on donating to this organization, call (727) 518-3047 or visit the Narrows Environmental Education Center at McGough, 11901 146th St N.
