Five pit bulls have been quarantined after they bit two people and charged police officers and an animal control officer..

ST. PETERSBURG – Five pit bulls have been removed from a home and put into quarantine after they got loose and bit two people, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Robin Macon, 62, was bitten multiple times and was taken to thehospital with severe injuries. Laquanda Butler, 52, was bitten on the leg. It is unclear how severe her injuries were.

Officers were called to the 2100 block of 21st Street S about 9:24 a.m. for complaints that five pit bulls had gotten loose and had bitten two people, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

When officers arrived, they found that the dogs were coming out of two open windows that had no screens. The dogs charged at police when they attempted to get out of their patrol cars. Officer said they used fire extinguishers to force them away. A Pinellas Animal Control officer responded and she also had to fight off a dog.

At one time when the dogs all jumped back inside, officers were able to use pepper spray to keep them back while they closed the windows.

The dog owner was not home at the time but later returned and helped the home and helped the Animal Control Officer load the dogs into the Animal Control truck. They were removed from the home. The dogs will be kept under quarantine and for further investigation, police said.
