Pinellas Animal Services Wins State Awards

Pinellas County Animal Services and one of its employees were honored by the Florida Animal Control Association.

PINELLAS COUNTY – The county’s animal shelter was selected as the Outstanding Agency of the Year for 2014 at the Florida Animal Control Association’s 2015 Conference in Orlando on Feb. 28.  Additionally, Animal Control Officer Jodey Stambaugh was selected as the Animal Control Officer of the Year.

“We are extremely proud of these awards,” said Maureen “Moe” Freaney, director of Pinellas County Animal Services. “These are great accomplishments for our team and for Pinellas County.”

Every year, the Florida Animal Control Association selects award recipients in each of the following categories: Outstanding Agency of the Year, Animal Control Officer of the Year, Employee of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Cooperative Team Achievement and Legislative Animal Ally awards.

The Florida Animal Control Association was established in 1984 to improve the methods and standards of the animal control and protection profession while informing the public of the importance of work performed by these professionals.

Pinellas County Animal Services is located at 12450 Ulmerton Road in Largo. Normal hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, with the adoption center closing at 5:30 p.m. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and services include adoptions. Rabies vaccinations are administered from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays. The facility is closed all Pinellas County holidays.
