An anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers led to the reunion of Guido the pug and his human, Donald Murray.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A 7-year-old pug named Guido that was inadvertently taken when his owner’s car was stolen has returned home.

Guido was reunited Tuesday (July 3) evening with his best friend and owner Donald Murray. After being featured on the news and social media someone called in an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip which led to the once separated pair finding each other again. (For related story, click here.)

Ever since Murray’s car was stolen May 29 with Guido in it, Murray had been desperately trying to find his friend. He feared the worst, but after the tip came in, Hillsborough County sheriff’s detectives were able to quickly run down the leads to this happy ending.

Through witness interviews and surveillance video, deputies said they learned that the suspect abandoned Guido behind the Publix Plaza at 19221 N Dale Mabry Highway immediately after the auto theft. Guido wandered over to an employee of the Majik Touch Cleaners & Laundry who thought that the dog’s owner had justdecided to abandon him.

Karlene Rowell, a different employee at the cleaners, took Guido home and has been taking care of him for the last month. She had no idea that Guido had been stolen and that his owner was looking for him.

When she got off work earlier Tuesday, deputies took Murray to her residence and confirmed that it was Guido that she had been caring for. Although Rowell and her family were sad to say goodbye to Guido, she was more than happy to reunite him with his owner.
