The bear is sitting in a tree and no one is in danger, Tampa police say.

TAMPA – A police officer responding to a call this morning (June 21) saw a large creature run by. It turned out to be a black bear.

The bear was spotted about 5:30 a.m., Tampa police said. The officer who first saw the bear, tried to follow it and spotted it in a back yard. Other officers were called to the scene.

The bear currently is in a tree at 4213 E Linebaugh Ave. Tampa police have made arrangements for an expert to respond and tranquilize the bear, so it can be returned to its natural habitat. No one in the area is in any danger, as the bear seems content to remain in the tree.
