Wrong-Way Driver Dies in Hillsborough Crash

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa man died Friday (March 25) morning when the car he was driving the wrong way struck another vehicle head on, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff.

Dwight Bradley Thomas, 66, of Tampa died at the scene of the crash, deputies said. The other driver, Christopher Lee Turner, 32, of Plant City was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash happened about 5:50 a.m. on Joe Ebert Road near Bloomfield Ridge Place. Deputies said Mr. Thomas was driving a 1999 Honda Accord west in the eastbound lane of Joe Ebert Road. Turner was driving his 2003 Mitsubishi Galant east in the eastbound lane of Joe Ebert when he saw the Honda come over a hill straight at him. Turner had just enough time to apply the brakes when he was struck head on, deputies said. Mr. Thomas died at the scene.
