Charges are pending against the other driver, who, deputies say, was driving the wrong way.

OLDSMAR – A Tarpon Springs woman has been accused of driving under the influence after she was involved in a head-on collision in Oldsmar late Saturday (Jan. 23) night.

Kimberly A. Sichterman, 53, of 1815 Gulf Beach Blvd., Tarpon Springs, was charged with DUI, according to Pinellas County deputies. Deputies said charges are pending against the other driver, Damon M. McBride, 42, of 166 Long View Circle, Tarpon Springs. McBride was injured when he fell while fleeing after the crash, deputies said. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Pinellas deputies say the crash happened about 11:15 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 23). They said  McBride was seen driving his 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck into oncoming traffic, eastbound on Tampa Road in the westbound lanes as he approached the intersection of Race Track Road. Sichterman and her passenger, Eric Sichterman, 46, were driving in her 2016 Volkswagen Passat westbound on Tampa Road, when she spotted McBride heading toward her in the wrong direction. Ms. Sichterman was unable to avoid the collision and McBride crashed into her head on, deputies said.

Deputies say that McBride got out of his truck after the crash and fled the scene on foot northbound. Realizing that McBride was attempting to leave the scene, Eric Sichterman chased him and caught McBride not far from the site of the crash. Mr. Sichterman held McBride until deputies arrived.

McBride received non-life threatening injuries after falling as he was fleeing from the scene of the crash. No one was injured as a result of the crash, according to deputies. McBride was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Criminal charges are pending, deputies said.

Deputies said they believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash. Ms. Sichterman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and taken to the Pinellas County Jail.

The investigation is continuing.
