ST. PETERSBURG — The University of South Florida St. Petersburg is ranked 23rd among regional public universities in the South, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2016 Best Colleges Rankings.

It is the highest-ever ranking for USFSP, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Criteria for the rankings include undergraduate academic reputation, retention, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and graduation rate performance.

“This latest ranking is indeed an honor and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the talented faculty and staff at USFSP,” said Regional Chancellor Sophia Wisniewska. “We’re in very good company, alongside some of the country’s finest public research institutions.”

The top three schools in USFSP’s category were The Citadel, James Madison University and Appalachian State University.
