Tropical Storm Colin Will Throw Its Strongest Punch Today

A landfall is expected much farther north, but Tampa Bay will receive heavy rain and, at times, gusty wind.

Tropical Storm Colin continues toward Florida’s West Coast, which is under tropical storm warning, and residents should expect rain with wind today (June 6). The heaviest weather is expected this evening, tonight and into Tuesday. Tornadoes are possible. Some flooding is expected, as forecasters are guessing rainfall in the 3-6 inch range. Schools are open today across the region, with the exception of Anna Maria Elementary in Manatee County.  Sandbags are available at a score of sites throughout the bay area. Check your local government agencies for for information.

Colin strengthened somewhat overnight. At 8 a.m. this morning, the storm packed 50 mph wind and was situated at latitude 26.4, longitude 87.3,  about 360 miles west-southwest of Tampa. It was moving to the NNE at 14 mph, with a barometric pressure reading of 1004 millibars.
