Charges are pending against the hospitalized teen, Hillsborough sheriff’s deputies said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – One man was sent to the hospital after a late night shooting in the parking lot of the Twilight Zone bar, according to the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office.

Tyler Ray Howell, 19, of Ocala was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Deputies said it happened about 10:54 p.m. Wednesday (May 18) in the parking lot of the Twilight Zone, 4010 E Hwy. 60. Witnesses told deputies that Howell was the passenger in a blue vehicle driven by an unknown male. A red vehicle, driven by Durrell Boswell, 23, of Plant City, and a female passenger, pulled up in front of the Twilight Zone.

Howell got out of the blue vehicle, deputies said, and approached Boswell’s vehicle while aiming a silver handgun and asking, “what are you going to do?” Deputies said Boswell, acting in self defense, pulled out his 9mm handgun and shot at Howell, striking him twice before leaving the scene. Howell also left, but returned a short time later and was taken to Tampa General, deputies said.

Boswell also returned, deputies said, and cooperated with their investigation. Neither Boswell nor his passenger know Howell. It is unclear why Howell approached Boswell’s vehicle. There is surveillance video of the incident but deputies said it will not be released. Charges are pending for Howell.
