Meanwhile, nine businesses make a list of America’s fastest growing companies.

ST. PETERSBURG — The city’s population is estimated at 256,681, an increase of almost 12,000 over the 2010 census, says the Bureau of Economic and Business Research.

The figure represents a 5 percent increase over the last census figure of 244,769, says the bureau, a University of Florida agency that provides data about the state.

City officials attribute the rise to new residential construction, and reductions in residential vacancies, boarded residential buildings, and foreclosures.

A separate data-mining revelation has shown that nine St. Petersburg companies have made the Inc. 5000 list, which represents the nation’s fastest-growing enterprises. The figures were gathered by Inc. magazine,  a 35-year-old publication specializing in growing firms. The determining factor to be included is the percentage of revenue growth over a four-year period.

The St. Pete companies on the list are Trident Technical Solutions, Tower Cloud, TheSSLStore.com, Focus School Software, ePush!, Squaremouth, ARG Back Office, CRA Therapy and Kobie Marketing.
