Better housing and more jobs are among the plan’s priorities.

ST. PETERSBURG – The public is invited to attend and speak at a series of required public meetings regarding the formal review and adoption of the South St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Plan, a process that starts in early April and is expected to be completed by mid-June. The first meeting is 6 p.m Tuesday (April 7) at City Hall, 175 Fifth St. N. The Citizens Advisory Committee will make a recommendation on the plan to the St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Agency.

The plan generally focuses on the Midtown and Childs Park areas. Its goal is to reinvigorate the housing market, rehabilitate housing, expand business opportunities and revitalize commercial corridors. Creating new jobs and improving residents’ work-readiness skills are high-priority items.

Future meetings, all at City Hall, are 3 p.m. April 14 (Community Planning and Preservation Commission); 1 p.m. April 23 (St. Petersburg City Council Workshop); 8:30 p.m. May 7 (St. Petersburg City Council);  6 p.m. May 21 (St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Agency) and 6 p.m. May 21 (St. Petersburg City Council, public hearing).  For information about the meeting and process, see stpete.org.
