A special contest will help advertise St. Petersburg.

ST. PETERSBURG – Area musicians have a chance to win a $500 cash prize for the best rendition of a classic folksong.

The You Are My Sunshine Music Contest is spotlighting local artists on a national stage by showing the world how St. Petersburg shines – and  rocks! Deadline for entry to the competition is Friday (May 1) and a May 9 free public concert is scheduled for the finalists.

Besides the cash prize, winners get a recording studio session, a feature in St. Petersburg’s national advertising campaign, and master publishing rights on his or her rendition of You Are My Sunshine.

“Everyone loves the Sunshine City, and if you’re a musician, this is your chance to show us just how much,” St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman says. “I encourage all citizens to play their version of this classic song for our city. No matter your musical ability, we want to hear from you.”
