A memorial for the founder of CASA, who passed away earlier this week,  will be Jan. 22.

ST. PETERSBURG — Services for Linda A. Osmundson, widely known around the Tampa Bay area for her work with domestic abuse victims, have been set for 2 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Palladium, 235 Fifth Ave. N.

Ms. Osmundson founded CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse) in 1989. Its executive director until June 2015, Ms. Osmundson died at her home Monday (Jan. 4) after an illness. She was 66.

Under her watch, CASA expanded from a 22-bed shelter in a small home to a 100-bed domestic violence center whose clientele came from around the bay area. Her staff grew from seven to more than 80.

In a job that often required 60-plus hours per week,  Ms. Osmundson used cycling to relax. In 2006, she took off from California on a bicycle trip across America.

“I’m just Linda who rides a bike. I’m not Linda the executive director,” she told a reporter then.

Tributes graced the pages of the CASA St. Petersburg Facebook. They talked about Ms. Osmundson’s dedication, caring nature and legacy.

U.S. Rep. David Jolly memorialized Ms. Osmundson this week on the floor of the House of Representatives. “She leaves a legacy that will not be forgotten,” Jolly said. “She was a quiet hero in our community and her life’s work undeniably saved thousands of lives and made Florida a safer place.”

In lieu of flowers, her family has asked that donations be made towards the shelter at www.casa-stpete.org/shelter.
