Transportation improvements in the Carillon/Gateway area will give Raymond James the capacity to expand and hire up to 650 new employee, St. Petersburg officials said.

ST. PETERSBURG – The St. Petersburg City Council today (June 1) authorized city administration to begin roadway improvements in the Carillon Parkway area.

The road work is designed to relieve congestion and improve drive times for current and future employees and residents.

City staff worked with the Florida Department of Transportation, Raymond James and other stakeholders and partners to study existing conditions and develop a comprehensive traffic mitigation plan that involves improvements to city and state-maintained and operated roadways bordering and within the Carillon Business Park.

The improvements will significantly improve traffic flow for not only residents and employees within the immediate Carillon area but also drivers who need to get through the roadway network to reach their final destination, officials said. The city-initiated work will integrate seamlessly with construction activities already under way by FDOT on Roosevelt Boulevard.

The improvements already under construction by the state and the city improvements approved today (June 1) are a critical first step in allowing Raymond James, a global financial services firm – and one of the top employers in St. Petersburg – the capacity to hire up to 650 new associates.. Raymond James has already purchased three buildings within the Carillon area in anticipation of hiring these new employees, and plans to invest $10 million in improvements.
