The new RaceTrac is expected to bring about 20 jobs to the area, store officials say.

KENNETH CITY – Officials here have broken ground for a RaceTrac gas and convenience store.

The store will be at 4625 66th St. N, the site of a former restaurant and a Sonic Drive-In. The new store is expected to open late this year. It is expected to bring about 20 new jobs to the area.

The RaceTrac will be one of the chain’s new prototypes with Swirl World frozen dessert stations, larger coffee areas with more counter space, brick entrance ways and an appealing landscape. The store is also expected to have a variety of fresh salads, sandwiches and wraps, as well as indoor and outdoor seating, free internet access, and a walk-in beer cooler.

Headquartered in Atlanta, RaceTrac is a third-generation led, family-owned company that has been serving guests since 1934. It has more than 400 locations in Georgia, Florida, Louisiana and Texas.

While operating under its mission of making people’s lives simpler and more enjoyable, RaceTrac introduced its new store prototype in 2012, debuting Swirl World frozen desserts, an expanded coffee bar and salads, sandwiches, fruits and bakery items delivered fresh daily.

The company has been named a top workplace across the four states in which it operates, as well as recognized on Forbes’ list of largest private companies. Convenience Store News has honored RaceTrac on the Top 100 Convenience Stores list and as Retail Innovator of the Year. In 2014, RaceTrac CEO Allison Moran was recognized by Convenience Store News as a “Woman of the Year” and Convenience Store Decisions named RaceTrac as its “Chain of the Year.”
