Treasure Island Police Officer Involved in Traffic Crash
The Pinellas County Sheriff is investigating the three-car crash that trapped a Treasure Island police officer inside his vehicle and sent three to the hospital.
TREASURE ISLAND – Pinellas County deputies are investigating a three-vehicle crash that occurred in Treasure Island at approximately 8 p.m. Monday (May 4).
Deputies say it happened this way:
Treasure Island Police Officer Daniel Savarese was traveling southbound on Gulf Boulevard in a marked Ford Explorer and began to decrease speed, as he intended to make a right turn onto W Gulf Boulevard. As Savarese slowed to make his turn, the driver of a Ford F-150 sideswiped a Dodge Charger and hit the rear of Savarese’s Ford Explorer. The impact of the F-150 striking the Explorer caused the Explorer to overturn, come to a rest on its driver’s side and trap Savarese inside.
Fire rescue responded and removed Savarese by extrication and transported him to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford F-150, identified as 46-year-old Juan DeLeon of Gulfport and his passenger, identified as 59-year-old Margaret Garcia, also of Gulfport, were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Dodge Charger, Jeremy Diez, 30, of Seminole, was not injured in the crash.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The investigation continues. For information, see pcsoweb.com.
