Tarpon Springs police say the arrests were made to keep a fight from escalating.

TARPON SPRINGS – Ten students were arrested Tuesday (May 24) after a large fight broke out on the Tarpon Springs High School campus, police say.

Tarpon Springs police say they were called to the school about 11:43 a.m. by school resource officers who needed help to stop a fight. The initial fight stemmed from an incident that happened off school grounds in Palm Harbor over the weekend. When the fight broke out on school grounds Tuesday (May 24), it initially involved four female students but several male students got involved, police said.

None of the students would listen to the repeated instructions of school staff or officers on scene to stop their aggressive behavior, according to police. Police said they decided to arrest four female and six male students to keep the situation from escalating and in the interest of the safety of others students and staff. They were all charged with disorderly conduct. All 10 students were juveniles ranging between the ninth and 11th grades, there were no serious injuries reported, and no weapons were involved. Officers remained on campus the remainder of the day as a precaution.
