They will start Saturday at Studio@620.

ST. PETERSBURG — A special series of home repair classes for women will begin Saturday (March 19) at the Studio@620, 620 First Ave. S.

Not that a lot of men couldn’t use such classes, but the ones for women at the Studio promise to give women a safe environment to try things out and learn, and get past stereotypes that women can’t use tools. Confidence, camaraderie, fun and hands-on learning are the goals, says the Studio’s newsletter.

Among topics are making furniture and appliances last longer, saving money and buying an older, less-expensive home that needs some work.

The classes are 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday and on April 2, May 7 and June 25. Cost is $25 each, $100 for the four. Instructors are  Davis Brooks and Maggie Romigh. Class space is said to be limited, so registering in advance is recommended, as are comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes and work gloves.
