The venerable film fest is trading the Tampa Theatre for a network of smaller venues in St. Petersburg and elsewhere.

TAMPA – The Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, having just celebrated its 25th anniversary, is planning to change its primary venue from the historic Tampa Theatre to a network of smaller venues throughout Tampa Bay, including downtown St. Petersburg’s Palladium Theatre.

A move to smaller, decentralized spaces will allow the festival to reach audiences where they live. Venues will be spread throughout Tampa, St. Pete and Gulfport. Seven theaters, performing arts centers and museums are under consideration.

“Tampa Theatre, was and always will be, an integral part of TIGLFF’s history,” said Margaret Murray, the festival’s executive director. “We look forward to working with them on events in the future. The door is not closed on our decades-long relationship.”

Said Wayne Atherholt, director of cultural and international affairs for St. Petersburg: “We are thrilled that TIGLFF is coming to St Petersburg, which has become the arts district for our region. The festival is an integral part of our city of opportunity and the arts.”

The  dates for this year’s festival are Oct. 2-10. For information, see tiglff.com.
