The Edge business district becomes an accredited National Main Street program.

ST. PETERSBURG — The National Main Street program has recognized the city’s downtown Edge business district for meeting commercial performance standards set by the National Main Street Center.

The Edge district is bounded by Dr. Martin Luther King Street and 16th Street between First avenues N and S. The district has several new businesses – three in the past two months – and a dozen more are expected this summer, district leaders say.

“We’re blossoming because we have great people here, and we have a great collaborative focus. The Main Street program brings us that focus,” said Barbara Voglewede, Edge Business Association director.

The National Main Street Center is a national organization encouraging historic preservation-based community revitalization. It is a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
