By JON WILSON, Consulting Editor, TB Reporter

The Sunshine City offers its annual fireworks extravaganza.

ST. PETERSBURG — Fireworks will light up the sky the night of Saturday, the Fourth of July. They will go off as early as 8:30 p.m. or as late as 10 p.m.,  depending on the weather.  As usual, the display will be staged near Spa Beach on the downtown waterfront. Best vantage points are Vinoy, North and South Straub, Albert Whitted and Spa Beach parks.

The fireworks show is one of several holiday events. The Historic Old Northeast neighborhood will stage a children’s parade at 10 a.m. at and near Coffee Pot Park, First Street N and 30th Avenue. Eight city pools will charge $1 per person admission between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., the Distinguished Men of Brass will present a concert at Sundial, 153 Second Ave. N.  From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., a tailgate party will be held at Al Lang Stadium, preceding the 6 p.m. soccer match between the Tampa Bay Rowdies and the Atlanta Silverbacks.  The Tampa Bay Rays street team and Raymond, team mascot, will be present from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in North Straub Park.
