St. Pete Walkathon to Benefit Guide Dogs

Walkathon | Southeastern Guide Dogs | Guide Dog Walkathon

Saturday’s (Feb. 27) walkathon is one of nine in the Tampa Bay area to benefit Southeastern Guide Dogs. Mayor Rick Kriseman has indicated he will take part.

ST. PETERSBURG – It’s time to dust off your walking shoes and your best friend’s paws for the Southeastern Guide Dogs Walkathon in St. Petersburg.

Two and four-legged friends are invited to join in this exciting community event that includes a 3K walk, music, local vendors, the Southeastern Guide Dogs Gift Shop, and family-friendly fun! And most importantly of all, the funds will help open new doors of independence for graduates with the gift of the best guide dogs in the world.

The cost to raise and train one guide dog from conception through retirement (usually at age 10) is tens of thousands of dollars. All services – which include selective breeding and training for the dogs; on-campus instruction for students; and lifetime follow-up for graduates – are provided at no cost to our students. Southeastern Guide Dogs receives no government funding and relies 100 percent on donations from community.

The St. Petersburg event is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 27) in Vinoy Park, 701 Bayshore Drive NW. St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman has said he will participate.
