St. Pete Police Seek Two in Drive-By Shooting
The two escaped after a chase when they crashed a stolen SUV into a tree in Gulfport.
ST. PETERSBURG – Police suspended the search Tuesday (Dec. 8) night for two suspected of a drive-by shooting in St. Petersburg.
The victim is a 19 year old male who lives at the address where the drive-by took place, officers say. His condition appears to be stable and non life threatening. Police had not released his identity late Tuesday. They say they have not found a motive for the shooting as yet, but the investigation continues.
St. Petersburg police say it happened this way:
Around 7:49 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 8), a maroon Hyundai SUV passed by 1201 10th Ave. S in St. Petersburg where four men were sitting on a porch. One of the occupants in the Hyundai fired multiple rounds at the men, striking one in the leg, and then left the scene. The wounded man was taken to the hospital by friends.
A few minutes later, about 8 p.m., officers say they spotted the suspect vehicle in the 34th Street S area and tried to stop the Hyundai which they had discovered was stolen. The vehicle fled from officers and a pursuit began that generally stayed in the area around Childs Park. The pursuit ended when the Hyundai left the road and struck a tree in front of 5140 Tangerine Blvd S in Gulfport. Two male suspects fled on foot. Police and a K-9 searched the area but could not find them.
Police say there is evidence in the Hyundai that a firearm had been inside at one time, but none was found and police say it was likely either taken with the suspects as they fled on foot or discarded from the car during the pursuit.
If anyone has information on the identity of these suspects or information about the shooting, they are asked to please call the St. Petersburg police at (727) 893-7780 or use the anonymous Tip-411! Text “SPPD” and your tip to 847-411 (Tip-411).
