The agencies have launched the Officer Friendly Book Club on Read Across the Globe Day.

ST. PETERSBURG — In what is a monthly activity, a St. Petersburg police officer this morning read to children at the SPEER YMCA Preschool Academy, 2100 26th Ave. S.

The St. Petersburg Police Department is one of three agencies partnering with
the Early Learning Coalition’s Officer Friendly’s Book Club.  The program
pairs local law enforcement officers and 43 early learning centers to promote
a love of reading and build positive relationships between young children and
law enforcement.

Once a month, a uniformed officer visits a preschool for 30 minutes, reads a
book to the children and talks to them about safety and community. The Early
Learning Coalition provides the book and gives the centers related curriculum
and activities based on the reading.

The Pinellas Sheriff’s Office and the Clearwater Police Department also participate.
