ST. PETERSBURG/GULFPORT – The mayors and police chiefs from St. Petersburg and Gulfport will host an event Saturday (Oct. 1) designed to celebrate “One Street, Two Cities, One Goal: Collaboration.”

The Third Annual Mayors’ 49th Street Cleanup hosted by Gulfport Mayor Sam Henderson and St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman is sponsored by Gulfport Neighbors and the Childs Park Neighborhood Association.

Residents from both sides of 49th Street S, which is the dividing line between the cities, are invited to the event, which starts at the east end of the Tangerine Greenway at Tangerine Avenue and 49th Street. Registration will begin at 7:45 a.m. and the opening ceremonies will begin at 8:30 a.m. The cleanup will begin shortly thereafter.

Prizes, giveaways and a post lunch is in store for volunteers. Information to share is also available at the Gulfport Neighbors event page.

Immediately after the mayors’ cleanup is the “Chiefs’ Chat,” a community forum with Gulfport Police Chief Rob Vincent and St. Petersburg Police Chief Tony Holloway. The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m.

This is an opportunity for members of both communities to learn more about how the police departments are working together to curb crime in the neighboring areas. The setting will be informal and residents are encouraged to ask questions, express concerns and offer suggestions.

For information, contact the Gulfport Neighbors at (727) 698-9471 or the city of Gulfport at (727) 893-1118.
