St. Pete Cops Charge Five over Celebratory Gunfire

The arrests came from two separate incidents.

ST. PETERSBURG – Police here arrested five men who allegedly shot guns to celebrate the new year.

St. Petersburg police say the following were arrested in one incident:

Jararski Ra’sharde Sandy, 28, of #22, 3806 9th Ave. N, St. Petersburg. He was charged with improper exhibition of a firearm and obstruction. Samuel Madison Lavine, 19, of 2412 Melrose Ave. S, St. Petersburg, was charged with possession of marijuana and obstruction. Arron Jordon Woody, 26, of 2438 9th Ave. S, St. Petersburg, was charged with obstruction.Elijah Dreshaud Johnson, 20, of 1229 24th St. S, St. Petersburg, was charged with grand theft of a firearm, improper exhibition of a firearm and obstruction.

Police say Arron Rodriguez Hinson, 32, of 1118 43rd St. S, was arrested in a separate incident. Hinson was taken to the Pinellas County Jail and charged with obstruction and felon in possession of a firearm.

The first case happened about 12: 30 a.m. today (Jan. 1), police say. Officers answered a call at 2609 3rd Ave. S complaining of male subjects in the area with guns. As officers approached the scene,  shots were fired in the area. A search found four men in front of that address. Two of them had rifles, police say.

When approached by officers, the four men tried to run away but police caught them. One rifle, one carbine and one handgun were recovered. Police say numerous shell casings lined 3rd Avenue S indicating that the suspects had been engaged in celebratory gunfire.  One of the firearms was discovered to be stolen.

Officers received a second call about 2 a.m. to 640 29th St. S complaining of a male shooting a rifle. Upon arrival, officers found numerous shell casings on the ground and the male suspect sitting in a red Monte Carlo parked in front of the address. An AK-47 style rifle was in plain view in the back seat. Officers said they asked the man about the weapon, but he refused to provide any demographic information or talk about the weapon. He was subsequently taken into custody and later identified as Hinson.
