Want to Go Solar in St. Pete?

Sun | Solar Power | Solar Energy

The St. Pete Solar Co-op is holding an information session tonight (Sept. 15) for property owners who want to save money while going solar.

ST. PETERSBURG – Homeowners in this city are forming a solar co-op so that members can use their group buying power to get discounts on solar panels.

Based on the same principle as buying in bulk, co-op members use a competitive bidding process to select a single company to install systems on all of the participating homes. Each participant signs his or her own contract with the installer, but everyone gets the bulk discount. By going solar as a group members say they can save up to 20 percent off the cost of a solar system. Memvbers also have the support of the group instead of navigating an often-complicated process alone.

The deadline for joining the group is Nov. 30.

The co-op, sponsored by the League of Women Voters Florida, Sierra Club and FL SUN, has scheduled an informational meeting from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. tonight (Sept. 15) at the Unitarian Universalist Church of St. Petersburg, 100 Mirror Lake Drive N.

For information, to RSVP, or join the co-op, go to flsun.org.
