Pinellas sheriff’s deputies say the three-year-old took the drugs from the man’s pocket and ate it. The child is expected to survive.

ST. PETERSBURG – Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies have accused a man of child neglect after the three-year-old ingested synthetic marijuana.

Arrested and charged Sunday (Jan. 10) with one count of child neglect was Christopher Lee Clark, 45, of 6533 29^th Way N in St. Petersburg.

Deputies say Clark had the synthetic marijuana, also known as street spice, in his pocket.  At some point Saturday (Jan. 9) evening, the child, a three-year-old girl, took the spice from Clark’s pocket and ate it.  The exact quantity is unknown at this time. Deputies say the child got progressively ill through Saturday night. She vomited overnight and by Sunday (Jan. 10) morning was lethargic and unresponsive. Clark called 9-1-1 late Sunday morning. The child was taken by ambulance to All Children’s Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Deputies say Clark admitted he purchased the spice and knew the child had ingested the spice. Additionally, the investigation revealed that Clark had smoked spice on at least two occasions while the child was in his care and custody. Clark was arrested and charged with child neglect and taken to the Pinellas County Jail without further incident. Deputies say the child is expected to survive.
