A workshop to talk about a longtime challenge is open to the public.

ST. PETERSBURG — Here comes a new examination of a classic St. Pete quandary: downtown parking.

And you’re invited to have your say.

City officials have finished a draft study of existing and future parking conditions downtown and will air preliminary results and ideas at a public workshop Wednesday (Dec. 9) 6:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Venue is the Museum of Fine Arts, 255 Beach Drive NE.

The study focused on two contiguous areas:

Fifth Avenue N to Fifth Avenue S between Tampa Bay and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street; and one block north of First Avenue N to one block south of First Avenue S between Martin Luther King and I-275. The latter area includes the popular Edge District.

A plan to solve parking problems is expected to follow. Such a plan could include parking regulation modifications, adding parking spaces in certain locations, and strategies for managing existing parking resources. The city hired a national parking consultant, Kimley Horn & Associates, to perform the study and assist in developing the plan.

Workshop participants can park free in the Sundial Garage at 117 2nd St. N. Those who park there are asked to bring their parking ticket to the workshop to be validated.
