More than 250 volunteers are needed to help make the free show a success.

The 42nd Mainsail Art Festival will take place April 22-23 in St. Petersburg’s downtown waterfront Vinoy Park, at 701 Bayshore Drive NE. This prestigious show is considered to be one of the most exciting outdoor art events in Florida, attracting 260 professional artists from across the country — and it needs plenty of volunteers.

Community support is crucial to the success of the festival.  More than 250 volunteers are needed to staff several booths on both days. Volunteer areas include promotions/t-shirt and poster sales, hospitality/information tent,  beverage sales/water booths, and beer and wine trucks (must be at least 21 years old, limited to one shift per day). All volunteers can purchase a 2017 T-shirt for $5.

Shift times on Saturday are 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Shift times on Sunday are 10 a.m. to 1 noon, 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

To make the sign-up process more efficient, volunteers are asked to use our online Volunteer Registration Form to select a location, day and time that have openings available. Visit the Mainsail website and click on volunteers on the upper right side of the page.

About the Festival

Now in its 42nd year, Mainsail Art Festival began in 1976 when the city’s Bicentennial Committee, the St. Petersburg Recreation Department and the new Saint Petersburg Arts Commission joined forces to sponsor the “First Annual Saint Petersburg Sidewalk Arts and Colonial Crafts Festival.”

The two-day event combines visual and performing arts, along with a Young at ARt student show and opportunities for children to actively engage in art activities. There will be an assortment of culinary arts as well as Mainsail souvenirs. Admission is free. More than 260 exhibiting artists from all over the nation have their art on sale or available for commission in categories including ceramics, fibers, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, oil/acrylic, photography, sculpture, watercolor and wood.
