All four referendum questions win approval.

ST. PETERSBURG — Incumbents Charlie Gerdes and Steve Kornell won City Council re-election and Lisa Wheeler-Brown was successful in her bid for a seat in St. Petersburg’s elections Tuesday (Nov. 3).

And passing easily were four non-controversial referendum questions having to do with protecting submerged lands and amending the city charter regarding council districts, council member residency and electronic voting at council meetings.

Gerdes defeated Monica Abbott with 64 percent of the vote; Kornell topped Philip Garrett with 56 percent; and Wheeler-Brown defeating Will Newton with 58 percent.

Ed Montanari won a council seat in June when he drew no opposition in his district.

Voter turnout was low, with most precincts reporting 10 to 20 percent of their eligible voters casting ballots. Overall  turnout was 17.12 percent.
