The neighborhood hopes the walk will help reduce violence and conflict in the community.

ST. PETERSBURG – Childs Park neighborhood leaders are planning a Walk for Peace this Saturday (Feb. 4) in an effort to bring harmony to a community that has often struggled with a tough reputation. The walk is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and begins at the Childs Park Recreation Center, 4301 13th Ave. S.

Organizers have as a goal knocking on at least 1,000 doors and engage residents in conversations about keeping the peace. “Lace up your boots, knock on some doors and talk with your neighbors,” says the neighborhood association’s Facebook page.

Organizers hope to get at least 25 walkers. As of Monday, 137 persons have expressed interest on the Facebook page and 38 people say they will attend.
