Two Advance in St. Pete City Council Race

Lisa Wheeler-Brown and Winthrop “Will” Newton advance to the general election.

ST. PETERSBURG — Lisa Wheeler-Brown and Winthrop “Will” Newton finished 1-2 in the St. Petersburg City Council District 7 primary Tuesday and will face each other in the general election Nov. 3.

Unofficial results about 20 minutes after polls closed at 7 p.m. showed Wheeler-Brown, immediate past President of the Council of Neighborhood Associations, receiving  37.45 percent. Newton, a former city firefighter/EMT and brother of council member Wengay Newton, received 34.22 percent.

Sheila Scott Griffin finished third with 17.81 percent, followed by Aaron Sharpe (6.81 percent) and Lewis Stephens Jr. (3.72 percent).

There were 2,684 ballots cast among the district’s 19,114 voters.
