Ten adult teams of two to four people each will battle it out to determine the best spellers in the area during this fundraiser for the Literacy Council of St. Petersburg.

The competition consists of 11 rounds of 10 words. The Stand-Up Librarian, literary comedian Meredith Myers, is host to the event. The evening will also include snacks, music and a raffle featuring items from local businesses and authors. Theatricality, team names and costumes are encouraged. Registration is $75 per team. To register, visit wordierthanthou.com, or send a check for $75 made out to the Literacy Council of St. Petersburg, 1717 54th Ave. N, St. Petersburg, 33714-2038. Tickets to watch the spelling bee are $7 per person in advance and $10 at the door.

The winning team will receive a prize. A raffle will be held, with items from local businesses, artists, and authors. Items are being sought and will be collected through the day of the event.
