St. Petersburg Motorcyclist Dies in New Year’s Eve Traffic Crash
A Seminole man has been charged with DUI manslaughter.
PINELLAS COUNTY – A St. Petersburg man died Thursday (Dec. 31) in a traffic crash that Florida Highway Patrol troopers say was alcohol related.
Dead at the scene was Matthew Deremer, 31, of St. Petersburg. Charged with DUI manslaughter, a felony, and failure to yield right of way was Steven Lee Clarke, 59, of Seminole.
The crash happened about 7:55 p.m., troopers say. Clarke was driving his 2012 Lincoln MKX eastbound on CR 296 (102nd Avenue N) at the intersection of 98/97th Street N. Mr. Deremer was driving his 2007 Suzuki motorcycle on CR 296. He was passing the intersection at 98/97th Street. Clarke turned left into the path of the motorcycle and the two vehicles collided. Mr. Deremer, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene. Clarke was arrested and taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
