The academy gives Pinellas teens a chance to take a behind-the-scenes look at the Sheriff’s Office.

PINELLAS COUNTY – The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the Sheriff’s Teen Citizens Academy Class #6.

The academy allows Pinellas teens to take a behind-the-scenes look at the Sheriff’s Office. The academy will provide students an opportunity to work with Pinellas deputies while safely and effectively using a firearm, practicing defensive tactics, learning defensive driving, taking a tour of the Pinellas County Jail, and much more.

The free six-week, hands-on program is open to students between ages 14 and 18 and will be held on consecutive Saturday mornings from June 4 through July 9. Meeting times are 9 a.m. to noon at various Sheriff’s Office locations.

Applicants must be enrolled in an education program (including homeschool) and be willing to undergo a criminal history screening and background check. Teens with a criminal history are not eligible for this program.
