Three candidates signed up to run for the two available seats on the Seminole City Council.

SEMINOLE – Leslie Waters won her second full term as mayor Monday (Aug. 15) when no one appeared to run against her by the close of qualifying.

Incumbents Thom Barnhorn and Jim Quinn will run against Tom Christy for the two open council seats. Christy is making his seventh run for a spot on the council. The two top votegetters will take office.

Waters, who could not be reached for comment, has served on the Seminole council since 2009. She served as interim mayor from 2012 to 2013, filling out the term of Jimmy Johnson who left office because of health problems. Before then, Waters served in the State House of Representatives from 1998 to 2008. Her last two years, she served as house speaker pro tem.

In addition to her council job, she owns Leslie Waters Government Relations and is an international democracy consultant. She is also an adjunct professor of political science at Eckerd College.

The Seminole mayor and council members serve three-year terms. The election for the council seats is Nov. 8.
