Martha “Marty” P. Mohn, founder of the Lewis W. Mohn Funeral Home and Cremation Services, died in November.

SEMINOLE – Martha “Marty” P. Moh, 90, of Seminole died Nov. 27, 2015, after a short illness.

Mrs. Mohn was known widely in the Seminole area for her civic activism that ranged from early membership in the Seminole Chamber of Commerce to volunteer work with the then-Seminole Volunteer Fire Department. She was a co-founder with her husband of the Lewis W. Mohn Funeral Home in Seminole.

The Mohn Funeral Home remembered her many contributions:

“A resident of the St. Petersburg/Seminole Community for over 60 years, Marty was best known for her love of family, friends, community, and the Christmas Season. She participated in nearly every local civic organization, was a prominent and early member of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce, and involved herself in city endeavors in other ways. 

“Born in Wooster, Ohio, Dec. 15, 1924, she moved to the St. Petersburg area in 1952 with her husband, Lewis, and daughter, Vickii. She worked with Lewis in managing the Beach Memorial Funeral Home and in 1954 moved to Seminole to manage the Seminole Beach Memorial Funeral Home. In 1972, the couple started their own business, founding the Lewis W. Mohn Funeral Home, where they were a team in every way. Marty and Lewis operated on the Golden Rule, treating everyone with equal kindness and a desire to serve others as though they were family. 

“Martha was involved with the Seminole Volunteer Fire Department, before Seminole Fire & Rescue was formed and hosted meetings for the volunteer firefighters at the funeral home. She also volunteered as a dispatcher for several years in the early 1960s. 

“A longtime member of the GFWC-Pinellas Seminole Women’s Club, she served as president for several terms. She also served on the Seminole Historical Society board, volunteered with the Bay Ridge Business and Professional Women’s Club, the American Heart Association and the Senior Citizens Club of Seminole, and was involved with the Mu Alpha sorority of Beta Sigma Phi, serving twice as president, and the Seminole Kiwanis Club. She was a member of the Seminole United Methodist Church. In 2009 Marty was chosen as Princess for the Queen of Hearts Court in St. Petersburg. Marty also served as Worthy Matron and State Representative for the Gulf Beach Chapter, #241, Order of Eastern Star. In 1996, she was honored by the Seminole Chamber as ‘Ms. Seminole.’

“Marty is survived by her daughter, Victoria Walters; her son-in-law, Victor Walters; Granddaughters, Jamey Kline (Nicholas), Andrea Patterson (Doug), Stephanie Caracelo (Damian); Grandsons, Jason Block (Jillian), Joshua Walters (Rebekah) and 11 Great-Grandchildren, Isabella, Rebecca, Briann, Olivia, Lillie, Mackenzie, Naomi, Josiah, Naava, Leah and Aria. ”

Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 6) at the Lewis W. Mohn Funeral Home, 9700 Seminole Blvd. A funeral service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Monday (Dec. 7) with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5750 49th St. N, St. Petersburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Tampa or Ronald McDonald Charities of Tampa Bay.
