Seminole voters also overwhelmingly approved attendance requirements for council members.

SEMINOLE – Incumbent Chris Burke won another term on the Seminole Council and political newcomer Trish Springer won the other open seat.

According to unofficial results, Springer on Tuesday outpolled the other five candidates with 1,234 votes, or 28.3 percent of the total vote. Burke came in second with 1,084, or 24.86 percent. The other candidates: Fred Petty, 713, or 16.35 percent; Thomas Christy, 494, or 11.33 percent; Joe Haynes, 432, or 9.91 percent; and Dave Outlaw, 404, or 9.26 percent.

Voters also approved two changes to the charter. One, which got 1,606 votes (67.11 percent), gives council members the right to decide what is an “excused” absence from publicly announced meetings of the council. The other, which got 2,108 votes (86.18 percent) will cause a council member to forfeit his/her seat for missing six or more publicly announced meetings in a 12-month period unless they were considered excused absences.
