PINELLAS COUNTY – A 62-year-old Safety Harbor man died early today (May 30) after he was partially thrown from his SUV when it overturned.

Dead at the scene was John Walter Rouzer, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP investigators said Rouzer was driving his 2002 Chevrolet Blazer north about 3 a.m. in the outside land of East Lake Road just south of Foxwood Lane when he lost control of the SUV. The SUV left the pavement and went on the east side of the roadway. Rouzer over-corrected to the left, causing his SUV to cross both northbound lanes of East Lake Road. The SUV entered the median where it overturned and Rouzer, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially thrown from the vehicle. After the crash, the SUV caught on fire. Rouzer died at the scene. It is unknown if alcohol was involved. For information about the FHP, see flhsmv.gov.
