The facility will have equipment designed specifically for wounded veterans’ rehab needs.

PINELLAS PARK – Officials here have broken ground on a park designed to help wounded veterans recover from their injuries.

The Wounded Warriors Abilities Ranch will be located at Lurie Community Park, 5500 62nd Ave. N. The 10-acre property, donated to the city in 1998 by Dr. Edward Lurie and his wife, Vivian, has been used as a passive park for horseback riding. Riding will still be allowed in the park, but equipment will be added that is designed to help wounded service personnel recover from their injuries.

“These veterans have sacrificed to keep us free,” Pinellas Park Mayor Sandy Bradbury said. “It is only right that we show our gratitude to them for those sacrifices and help them get the care and benefits they deserve.”
