Pinellas Park Wants Your Help to Build a “Better Block”

Redevelopment | CRA | Community Redevelopment

Pinellas Park has scheduled a community workshop to get thoughts and ideas for re-developing an area of the city around the 5600 block of Park Boulevard.

PINELLAS PARK – City officials here have hired a Dallas, Texas-based company, Team Better Block, to help them develop a “destination” area for Pinellas Park. They’re centering their attention on the three- or four-block area around the 5600 block of Park Boulevard, which is immediately east of the railroad tracks.

As part of that process, Pinellas Park and Team Better Block are holding a community walk and talk and a community workshop on Thursday (June 18) evening and Friday (June 19) morning. As part of the tour, Better Block will temporarily transform part of the area into a walkable, bikeable district complete with pop-up businesses, landscaping and parks, street furniture, outdoor cafe seating, art, entertainment, and pedestrian-friendly transportation.

The project acts as a living charrette so that the entire community can envision and join in planning the future development of the area. Residents, volunteers, community leaders, artists, cutural organizations, planners, clergy, teachers and students, realtors, businesses, shoppers and anyone who is interested are all invited to join in.

The first part of the event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday (June 18) at the City Auditorium, 7690 59th St. N. The second session is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday (June 19) at Park Station, 5851 Park Blvd. For information, call (727) 369-0670 or see pinellas-park.com.
