Driver Rear Ends Deputy in Pinellas Park Crash

Pinellas deputies charged the driver with driving under the influence and driving under the influence in an accident with property damage.

PINELLAS PARK – Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a deputy involved crash that happened around 9:18 p.m. Sunday (May 10) in Pinellas Park.

Deputies say it happened this way: Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholas Mandakunis was stopped for a red light on 49th Street N at Park Boulevard in his marked 2009 Ford Crown Victoria when the driver of a Ford F150, traveling northbound, struck the rear of the cruiser.

Mandakunis, who has been with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office for almost two years, was not injured. However, a prisoner who was riding in the back seat of the cruiser, was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released to the Pinellas County Jail. Sheriff’s officials did not release the prisoner’s name.

Deputies say the driver of the Ford F150, identified as 58-year-old Ricky Fullmer of Pinellas Park, was not injured. Deputies say Fullmer showed signs of impairment at the time of the crash and a field sobriety test was conducted. Fullmer was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and DUI with property damage. He was taken to the Pinellas County Jail without further incident. The investigation continues.
